Geographical Information System

Digital cartography or Geographical Information System (GIS) secured its position as an essential tool in land management.

TEREA works with GIS softwares (ArcGis, Mapinfo, QGis) able to integrate and process data coming from many sources: optical images, radar images, aerial photographs, topographic data (DEM, LIDAR), existing or created datasets …

GIS can provide detailed analysis and description of project sites, field data spatialization, planning and monitoring of logging and industrial operations, and restitution of technical studies or inventories.

GIS gives, for example, an optimal identification of sensitive and high conservation value (HCV) areas, carrying out thematic analysis including physical, biological or human factors. GIS is also a key tool in logging road optimization, minimizing environmental impacts and reducing the costs.

TEREA offers its technical assistance, its expertise or training sessions based on geographic database creation and management, satellite images interpretation, completion of thematic maps, and spatial planning of logging and industrial activities.

Modelling

For environmental impact assessment or to dimension resources for fighting noise and air pollution, TEREA realizes acoustic and atmospheric dispersion modelling.

Acoustic modelling

Acoustic modelling consists of predicting noise levels generated by an industrial project on its environment.

To this end, the noise modelling CadnaA 4.4.® is used. Based on specific elements for each project, the model calculates the acoustic wave propagation in the three dimensions.

The software enables to produce maps of noise dispersion and three-dimensional views of the noise generated by the project. Moreover, it enables to calculate the additional noise level generated by the project on receptors (limits of the project, residential and institutional areas …).

Atmospheric dispersion modelling

An atmospheric dispersion modelling of the project will be done in order to determine the concentrations of air polluting substances generated by the project.

The software ARIA Impact 1.7.6.® developed by the company ARIA Technologies is used to make the atmospheric dispersion modelling. This software is a Gaussian dispersion model. It describes the air pollution dispersion, taking into account the atmospheric turbulence calculated at different times of the day, based on the site weather data.

It is particularly recommended to model every industrial emission.

Maps of atmospheric polluant dispersion -gas and particule mater - (PM10 et PM2.5) are produced from the project data given by the client.
