1st PPFNC consultation platform workshop

The first workshop of the multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral consultation platform of the North Congo Forest Landscape Project (PPFNC) was held on 17 May 2023 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
Chaired by Mr Moukissi, Forestry and Industrialisation Adviser, 31 participants (government departments, private sector operators, civil society organisations, international conservation NGOs) took part in the event. After a phase in which each of the stakeholders presented their technical notes, a concerted and spatialised territorial diagnosis was presented by Mr Jérémy BOURGON, geographer and researcher in spatial planning at CIRAD, assisted by Mr Alain André Saturnin NONOUKA GOMAT, Coordinator of the PPFNC and platform rapporteur.
The aim of the multi-stakeholder platform, to be launched in early 2023, is to provide input for discussions and facilitate decision-making on integrated land-use planning at the level of the North Congo Forest Landscape Project. This approach could subsequently be applied nationwide.
The PPFNC project is funded by AFD - Agence Française de Développement and coordinated by TEREA - Terre Environnement Aménagement, in partnership with CIRAD and AGRECO GEIE. It has 4 components:
- Improving biodiversity management on a forest massif scale (implemented by the Wildlife Conservation Society)
- Local development - Reducing human pressure on forest ecosystems
- Strengthening the sustainable management of forests
- Supporting an integrated approach to land-use planning in northern Congo.
