A new standard entitled PAFC Congo Basin has been developed for the Congo Basin forest region and validated by the PAFC Forum in the last quarter of 2020. This standard is currently being assessed for recognition by the PEFC Council.

It contains two new requirements linked to current climate issues:

  • The integration of a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions assessment linked to the forest operator's activities (requirement 7.3.1)
  • The integration of a carbon stock mapping (requirement 7.3.2)

The project thus aims to develop tools for forestry companies in the sub-region to meet these two requirements introduced in the future PAFC standard.

The aim is to develop two operational tools (one for each requirement) that are truly adapted to logging activities in the Congo Basin.
